Structure Placement Methods by Marker
Many Minecraft structures use region-based placement, but spacing, separation, salt, and random-number rules vary by structure, edition, and version. Strongholds and decorator features use different placement systems, so there is no single grid size that describes every marker on this map.
MC Seed Map runs the placement method used by each supported marker: dedicated stronghold lookup, regional structure rules, or per-chunk feature checks. It also applies edition, version, dimension, and available biome filters. Dungeon markers and structures that need full terrain viability remain explicitly identified as candidates.
Subterranean Structures & True 3D Depths
- Ancient City Depth: Ancient Cities are underground Deep Dark structures whose floor is commonly near Y=-51. The map marker gives X/Z planning coordinates; inspect the underground terrain to find the actual entrance and vertical extent.
- Trial Chamber Depth: Trial Chambers are underground Overworld structures and commonly appear in deepslate layers, but their exact Y and intersections depend on local terrain generation.
- Buried Treasure Offsets: Java treasure markers point to local chunk coordinate 9,9. The Bedrock finder uses its separate placement algorithm and chunk-center marker convention, so the Java offset must not be reused for a Bedrock world.
- Nether Fortress Search: Switch the map to the Nether before comparing fortress markers. Their pieces span multiple elevations, so approach with coordinates, fire resistance, blocks, and a safe return route rather than assuming one fixed Y band.
Nether Highway Travel (The 1:8 Coordinate Math)
For distant Overworld targets, divide X and Z by 8 to estimate the linked Nether coordinates. Build a protected tunnel through normal accessible Nether terrain. Building above the Nether roof is edition- and server-dependent and is not a general Bedrock route, so verify the rules of the world before relying on it.
Java and Bedrock Placement Differences
While Overworld biomes are nearly identical across Java and Bedrock in 1.18+, structure placement algorithms differ significantly between the two editions. Bedrock Edition uses independent structure seeds and different regional salt values, meaning Village coordinates or Stronghold positions on Java will not match Bedrock worlds on the same seed number.
Structure Generation in Upgraded Worlds
If your world was created in an older version (such as 1.20) and upgraded to 1.21, chunks you previously explored will never generate new structures like Trial Chambers. New structures only generate in newly explored, previously unloaded chunks where the modern generation pipeline can run.
Structure finder FAQ
- Why is a marked structure missing in my world?
- Confirm the seed, edition, version, dimension, and whether the chunk was generated earlier. The map computes supported placement positions, but some structures still require terrain checks that this browser renderer cannot reproduce; snapshots, experiments, datapacks, and add-ons can also change generation.
- Can two different structures intersect in the same location?
- Yes. Structures generated in different worldgen passes can intersect, such as a Ruined Portal cutting through a Village house or a Pillager Outpost generating adjacent to a Desert Temple.
- How do Trial Spawners differ from standard monster room spawners?
- Trial Spawners run limited combat waves that scale with nearby players, eject rewards that can include trial keys, and then enter a cooldown. Standard monster-room spawners keep cycling while their activation and nearby-entity checks are satisfied.
